Caring for Eastham Village Conservation Area
A dedicated team of volunteers who look after the graveyard surrounding Eastham’s 12th Century Church of St Mary. They complement and supplement the maintenance work that is undertaken by Wirral Council.
Following a long, wet, winter Eastham’s Graveyard team are now out in force. The grass between the headstones has been mown, and summer bedding is being planted.

The Friends of Torr Park and The Graveyard Team will meet with Carl Davies, the Council’s Parks manager for the Eastham area, on the 25th January. It is hoped the Graveyard Team will be able to organise the co-ordination between the Council’s workforce and the Graveyard volunteers to manage everyone’s time and input more effectively. The Torr Park contingent will be seeking to understand how the Council will be operating and what the priorities are for the Friends Group
September 15th is the date scheduled for work to start on stabilising the wall around Eastham Churchyard. The wall was built in about 1860 to contain the made-up ground section of the extended churchyard. As it is an important feature of the Conservation Area lime mortar will be used and the original sandstone blocks careful cleaned and replaced in their original positions. A recent collapse of a section of the wall after recent heavy rains has made the measures urgent.
