OUR PROJECTS

Eastham Village Preservation Association delivers its work through a series of focused projects, each carefully designed either to Protect or to Enhance our Conservation Area.

Eastham is Wirral’s oldest village and one of its designated Conservation Areas, recognised for its historic character, architectural quality and village setting. Our projects reflect that responsibility. Each one addresses a specific aspect of village life — from planning oversight and traffic management to heritage restoration, green spaces and community wellbeing — ensuring that Eastham’s distinctive character is both safeguarded and strengthened.

Oil tanker parked on the pavement in Ferry Road

Addressing the impact of modern traffic on medieval roads.

We monitor speeding, parking pressure and HGV impact, and operate a Community Speed Watch initiative in partnership with the Council and police.

📑 Planning & Tree Applications

Felled trrees that would have subject to a tree application

Safeguarding development within the Conservation Area.

We review planning and tree applications, raise concerns where appropriate, and engage with senior planning officers to promote high standards of design and preservation.

Enhancing Eastham

🌸 Floral Eastham

Tulip peeping over the Churchyard Wall in Church Lane

Enhancing the appearance of the village throughout the seasons.

Through hanging baskets, planters, bulbs and volunteer planting days, we help keep Eastham cared for and welcoming.

🏛 History & Heritage

The refurbish and preserved Gilbert phone box in the village centre

Protecting Eastham’s historic character and features.

From restoring traditional signposts, the village clock and the Gilbert phonebox to documenting Eastham’s story, this project helps maintain the fabric and identity of the village.

🌳 Parks & Green Spaces

Caring for the open spaces that define village life.

Working alongside the Friends of Torr Park and the Graveyard Team, we support maintenance, improvements and community use of Eastham’s green spaces.

🚶 Public Footpaths

Protecting rights of way and pedestrian access.

We campaign to reopen and maintain important routes, including the shoreline path and local rights of way across open land.

🎠 Eastham’s Victorian Pleasure Gardens

Preserving a remarkable chapter of Wirral’s history.

We are working to protect, research and interpret the surviving remains of the former Ferry and Pleasure Gardens, once known as “The Richmond of the Mersey.”

🤝 Community Action

Encouraging pride and participation in village life.

This project brings residents together to address local issues, support improvements and help keep Eastham tidy, safe and well cared for.
