Traffic Problems

Eastham is a Conservation Area of real historic significance, and an important part of Wirral’s story. The Council has a duty to preserve and enhance places like this — but the village roads, laid out in medieval times, were never designed for today’s levels of traffic.
With narrow, twisting routes and limited (or no) pavements in places, pedestrians can feel vulnerable — especially where cottages and high sandstone walls sit close to the carriageway. The problem is made worse by the speed, volume and size of vehicles, including HGVs, passing through the heart of the village.
Our Speed Watch initiative, run in partnership with the Council’s Road Safety team and Merseyside Police, supports the village-wide 20mph limit. We hold regular sessions using a speed monitoring device to help drivers see the speed they are actually travelling — often higher than they realise. This work is educational, not about catching people out, and our aim is simple: safer roads for everyone.
If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. New volunteers are always welcome — even if you can only spare a little time. Clicking this button will take to the Contact Us page. Just fill in the details and ‘Send’!
